Abstrakt

Self-sovereign identity (SSI) gives entities control over their own identifiers without relying on a central authority. For IoT devices in research settings, this matters: an instrument that can prove its own identity and sign its data outputs enables reproducibility checks that centralized approaches cannot.

This conference paper introduces a new DID method designed for scientific IoT environments and registered on the Bloxberg blockchain — the permissioned Ethereum network operated by leading research institutions. The paper covers the motivation for a research-specific DID method (as opposed to adapting an existing one), the method specification, and an initial evaluation against the W3C DID Core requirements.

The work presented here was the precursor to the full IEEE Access paper on did:blox, presenting the design rationale and early specification to the doctoral research community for feedback.
