Abstract

This paper presents a case study of a production certificates platform that integrates both AI and blockchain components. The combination solves a practical problem: AI is good at handling the messy, variable input that comes with certificate requests, but its outputs need to be anchored in a verifiable, tamper-proof record — which is where blockchain comes in.

The system uses AI for document classification, information extraction, and routing of certificate requests. Once a certificate is issued, a blockchain record provides an independently verifiable proof of authenticity that does not depend on the issuing institution’s availability.

The case study covers the architecture, the integration points between the two components, lessons from production deployment, and an honest assessment of where the combination adds value versus where simpler approaches would have been sufficient.
