Smart MENDELU is Mendel University's internal development department, based in Q13. Its vision is simple: turn the university into a better place to work and study, using the best information technology available. Not as a vendor would, but as people who walk the same corridors as their users.
Find the real problem
The mission is to identify the real needs of students and staff and find technological answers. Every module and system exists because someone on campus actually needed it.
Build it like a product
Agile teams, two-week sprints, CI/CD pipelines and user testing. Ideas come from team members as often as from management, and the shared goal always beats the org chart.

An international, open community of developers where students work next to professionals and grow into experts who walk straight into industry jobs. We are at a university, after all.

Team 01
My MENDELU
Realizes the Smart University concept. Native iOS and Android app, smart TVs and study department reservation system. The team mixes Ph.D. candidates with master's and bachelor's students.
Team 02
Applications for Process Electronization
Digitalizes the routine agenda of the university: web applications that replace paper processes for staff, from accreditation files to attendance. Students, university staff and external collaborators work side by side.
Team My MENDELU
A digital ecosystem, not just an app.
The flagship is the My MENDELU mobile app, which has its own page. Around it the team runs a whole family of services that have become the center of life on campus.
Smart study department
Reservations through the app or a touch panel killed the queue at the PEF study office. 16,893 reservations handled so far.
AI chatbots
Assistants on the websites of five university units answered 50,000+ questions in 2025. Over half of the conversations happen outside working hours.
Alumni club
1,677+ registered graduates with a digital alumni card, reachable directly through the app.
Smart displays
A campus-wide network of screens showing transport departures, room occupancy and events. It fully replaced an external vendor's system.
Report it!
Staff and students report problems and ideas straight to the IT helpdesk, from the app or the web.
Team Applications for Process Electronization
Production systems for university staff.
The less visible half of Smart MENDELU. Web applications in daily production use that need to be maintained and developed, replacing paper and email one process at a time.
Accreditation file builder
Programme accreditation files, built and managed electronically. Going live in early 2026 after years of paper binders.
Work attendance records
Complete attendance and leave records for university employees. In production, with a rebuilt backend and a mobile client on the way.
Employment proposals
The electronic košilka. Proposals for new contracts and contract changes move through the university digitally, with signatures verified against specimens.
Microcertificate generation
Issues university microcertificates and connects to the national verification system. The production side of our microcredentials research.
Signature specimen management
Who is authorized to sign what, stored and verifiable in seconds. In production since 2023.
Departmental forms and apps
17 standalone applications supporting departments across the university, running at formulare.mendelu.cz.
Admission
Application intake for international self-payer students, connected to the studyinbrno.cz portal. Includes a dedicated version for Ukrainian applicants.
